Hey guys,
A lot of you guys have read the lyrics and written back regarding one of my latest tunes, “Where Healing Starts”. So, I wanted to write a little blog giving my own thoughts on what inspired the song. So, below is my latest set of ramblings thoughts (hahaha). Be sure to check out the worktape/demo of the song I just posted as well (http://www.facebook.com/danielkirkleymusic). If there’s one lesson that’s inevitable for us all to learn, it’s the fact that life often times isn’t easy & rarely seems fair. Let’s be honest, we all have areas in our lives that seem utterly insurmountable at times. It’s those situations that when we are forced to come face to face with them, they can rock our very faith to it’s core. In those moments, we have the choice to shy away or to face them head first with confidence and courage. As hard as the latter option may be, I believe it’s in those times where our courage bares most growth. How can we possibly hope to grow if the status quo of our lives is never called into question or challenged? Simply put, growth’s beginning always starts with a challenge.

However, what about those times when what we’re walking through leaves us in a state of utter & complete despair? What about those moments when it’s impossible to imagine life ever returning to what we once knew? It’s almost impossible to find any semblance of hope there. Often times, it’s because the aftermath of that battle leaves us wounded and in need of complete repair. Life, though, presents itself to us through a series of ups and downs. So it stands to reason that once we reach our lowest possible point, our rock bottom, that an upward climb to a new pinnacle is in our future. That idea of repair, healing, and simply finding the joy in the journey, is what this latest song is about.

Why is it that the hardest thing for us to believe is that there would be anyone who could understand our situation? Especially when scripture teaches of a God so loved this world that he would enter it to show us first hand how the creator of our universe can overcome the impossible. That picture is meant to offer hope in each and every situation we may encounter daily. Now our restoration may not present itself in a picture that’s neat, easy to understand, or that we would choose, but it does offer the opportunity to come into a deeper relation with our maker. God meets us where we are, and in the middle of what’s broken, starts putting us back together; & that’s where healing starts…

Here’s To 35 Years!!!

Happy Monday my friends –
I hope this little update finds you each doing well. Well. I have to say. this is a pretty cool blog to write. You see, 35 years ago today my parents were married. As I look back over the 31 years I’ve been on this earth, I have to say that I’m increasingly thankful for my Mom & Dad. They have always been such a wonderful source of encouragement & support. Plus, witnessing daily how they live lives of integrity has been a great example to both my brother and me. So today, June 28th, 2010…I want to say HAPPY 35th ANNIVERSAY Mom & Dad. I love you…& look forward to seeing the next 35 unfold as well…

A Mother’s Song

Hey friends,
I hope this little update finds you each doing well! Things here in Nashville are going really well. I have to say…it’s so nice to feel life slowly return to normal after the big flood here a month ago. It’s still kind of hard to believe that’s been over a month already!!!
Anyway, as some of you know, I released a brand new song through itunes last month. It’s one that I wrote several years back (for my Mama) and am thrilled to now have the chance to share it with you. It is the first song cut for the new album releasing later this year…& the feedback has been wonderful. So, if you’ve yet to download your own copy, then head on over to iTunes to check it out…

Floods, FEMA & Free Music!!!

Wow – with all of the flooding that went down in Nashville this past week, it’s been hard to focus on much more than rebuilding, insurance claims & drying out… So in the midst of that, it totally slipped my mind that I have a new song available today! Reflections from New England

So I’m sitting here tonight in my hotel room in Lexington, MA with every light turned off sipping on some Perrier water & munching on a bag of Skittles (don’t judge me…it’s the perfect post-show snack – hahaha). It’s quiet, & I’ve opened the blinds so I can watch December’s first New England snow-fall against the dark sky. It’s quite beautiful outside; so crisp, clean, new… It’s kinda the perfect picture to sit and reflect.

You see, I’m in the process of finishing up a pretty busy week. In fact, this may have been one of the busiest weeks I’ve had all year (& it’s been a whirlwind of a year). By this time tomorrow, I will have played for 7 different events in 5 days through 5 different states (TN, MA, CT, RI & NJ)…WHEW! Of course, after the show tomorrow night in Jersey, I get to travel to New York for a few days off. This will be my first trip to “The Big Apple” & it’s taken almost 31 years to get there…I can’t wait!!! However, for now, it’s nice to enjoy a quiet evening of simple reflexion.

So let’s reflect: If I’m being honest, 2009 has been a year of some amazing highs but at the same time discouraging lows. Now I know there will be people from all different walks of life that’ll read this but I’m sure many of you know what I’m talking about when I say “lows”. Despite the various specifics that surround our lives, I’m talking about those situations that make your stomach churn & your heart ache…those instances you feel that despite all your work & striving you still fall short. The kind of moments that, at times, make you question everything you know & trust. Those are hard seasons for anyone to walk through…& I’ve been there!

So what do we do in those seasons? Well, I remember a pastor once saying that most of our lives are meant to be lived in the valley yet oftentimes we fool ourselves into believing life is to be meant to be lived on top of the mountain. He went on to say that those “mountain top experiences” were God’s way of encouraging our souls along this journey of life. I love that image…an image where my God knows & cares enough about my daily situation to send deliberate moments of encouragement for my heart. I believe something like that can only be described as a glimpse of heaven.

Tonight, as I’m looking out on the freshly fallen snow, all I can think about is how much I feel blessed. I can say with full confidence that I’m resting on the mountain-top this evening. When my time here in New England comes to an end, I’ll be walking away blessed & overly encouraged by the people I’ve had the chance to meet &/or reconnect with; those who trust me enough to share their time and stories; those whom I lovingly refer to not as fans…but as friends, family…my brothers & sisters! I know God is purposeful in our lives. His love finds a way to each of our hearts…& most times it takes us completely by surprise.

In saying all this, I’m in no way deluded by that fact that the beautiful glow of this week’s experience will gradually fade into a memory; something I’m bound to sit with friends & reminisce fondly over. Surely just as gradual will be the inevitable journey back into the valley. However, as it comes, I’m resolved to face it without fear but with a renewed hope; hope in my fellow man but more importantly in my Heavenly Father. With 2010 is right around the corner, I can’t help but look forward to a new year & the chance at new beginnings…convinced more than ever that whether we’re seeking it intently or not… God’s love always finds a way to our hearts…
